Cookery Classes

Thanks to money awarded in a Public Health Funding grant from Hampshire County Council, Winchester City Council will be running another six-week course of Community Cookery Skills classes aimed at men over 55 years of age.

The course has had previous success in a number of areas across the Winchester District. Des Holyhead, who attended the course in Bishop’s Waltham, said: “My wife was going into hospital, so it was a case of either come on the course or starve!”

The six-week course will help participants gain ideas and tips on preparing simple healthy meals.

The class will be held at Colden Common Community Centre, St Vigor Way, Colden Common SO21 1UU from Monday 9 June until Monday 14 July. The weekly sessions will be from 11:30am to 1:30pm with an opportunity for refreshments and socialising afterwards.

In a friendly, relaxed atmosphere the course will consider:

  • How to cook a range of simple meals from start to finish
  • Food shopping ideas
  • Food hygiene and storage
  • Importance of healthy eating to health and wellbeing

All places must be booked in advance. Please contact Nicola Lawrence on 01962 848083 or email nlawrence@winchester.gov.uk

The course costs just £1 per session and all ingredients are provided.
