Easter is coming to a town near you
Press Release: 28/03/2014
People living in Winchester’s market towns won’t need to travel further than their own high streets to find free family fun this Easter.
Bishop’s Waltham, Denmead and Wickham are each playing host to some Easter entertainment of their own, and it won’t cost a bean. In fact in Wickham, the participants will be the ones getting the beans – jelly beans, that is.
From 5 -20 April in Wickham, children can take part in an Easter Treasure Hunt. Treasure hunt sheets will be delivered to local schools and can also be picked up in shops in Wickham displaying the poster. Children must hunt around the Square to find the answers to 10 questions and if they get them right, they will receive their treasure. Parents can also take part by voting for their favourite window display.
In Denmead, families are invited to take part in the Denmead Chicken Run on Saturday 19 April. This village-wide egg hunt will take participants on a quest around Denmead in search of rather large eggs made by different organisations in the village. At the end of a trail is a giant Easter egg (made by the Scouts) to which each participant can add their name and decoration. Winners of the school egg decorations (hanging in Denmead shop windows from 5-21 April) will also be announced on 19 April.
Schools in villages around Bishop’s Waltham have received maps for the Indie Easter Egg Hunt taking place from Saturday 5 to Saturday 19 April. Twenty independent shops are taking part in the hunt, and children must find the egg hidden in their window in order to collect an egg sticker. When they have 15 stickers, they can swap their map for a chocolate egg and be entered into a prize draw with prizes appealing to both children and their parents. Extra maps are available at all shops displaying the poster.
All of the events are free to join thanks to the generosity of local businesses. So residents are encouraged to show their support for them this Easter and have a cracking time.
