Outdoor gym – free adult fitness sessions coming to Alresford

Press Release: 03/06/2014

Outdoor Gym

Winchester City Council is extending its free outdoor gym sessions to Perins Community School in Alresford starting this Thursday, 5 June, and running for eight weeks.

Local residents are invited to the school’s outdoor gym to take part in these sessions with qualified personal trainers and council activators to get fit for free. They will be completing a fun eight-week fitness programme which will raise pulses and get the participants physically active and ready for the summer.

These sessions have been put in place due to the popularity of others which are running across Winchester in Kings Worthy at Harwood Place, on Tuesday, in Winnall, Imber Road, on Wednesday and in Bishop’s Waltham at Priory Park on Thursday evening as well as sessions starting soon at Peter Symonds College.

Cllr Robert Humby, Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council, said:

These sessions are great for people wanting to get physically active and start some regular exercise on a weekly basis, but what is even better is that our activators are providing these sessions for free.

Pete Leamore, Vice Chair of the Sport and Physical Activity Alliance, said:

The outdoor gym sessions fit perfectly into the SPAA’s strategic priorities as it encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to become fit and healthy.

The sessions in Alresford will take place just outside Evolution gym, on the outdoor gym equipment, and the classes themselves will be aimed at both beginners and intermediate participants. The sessions will be circuit-training based and will work the entire body from head to toe.

The sessions at Perins School will be every Thursday evening, from 7 – 8pm. For more information about any of these sessions please contact Alex Taylor on 01962 848 493 or on ataylor2@winchester.gov.uk
