Launch of Winchester Criterium 2014
Press Release: 20/06/2014
A new family cycle ride and a challenge for corporate teams have been announced as new categories for the Winchester Criterium 2014.
The closed-circuit cycle race around the city streets on Sunday 17 August features many top riders in elite and professional races.
The new categories are designed to open up the excitement of cycling among Winchester’s historic attractions to family groups and teams from businesses and organisations.
The 2014 event was launched yesterday (Thursday 19 June) at the Holiday Inn, Winchester by Event Director Mark Sandamas and Cllr Rob Humby, Leader of Winchester City Council.
The event is organised by Pennine Events in partnership with Winchester City Council. The races attract high-calibre fields and up to 10,000 spectators are expected to line the streets.
Earlier in the day on 17 August a fun Cyclefest event in the Broadway from 10am to 2pm will get people in the mood for the big event with stunt displays, vintage bikes, a mountain bike track and ‘roller-racing’ – bike racing to music.
