Kick off the New Year with healthy cookery classes for children
Press Release: 14/01/2014
Local entrepreneur, Debbie Plunton, is offering busy families the opportunity to teach their children essential cooking skills and nutrition. Her new business, Cookie Kids, is offering children’s cookery workshops for primary school children aged 6 to 11 developing vital skills for life.
Debbie, who lives in Harestock in Winchester, said:
In recent years there has been an increasing focus on healthier eating trends but with busy family lifestyles, children are missing out on the key skills that revolve around cooking, food hygiene and preparation. The main focus of my workshops will be to learn cookery skills or to perfect existing ones and to understand nutritional values to enable children to make healthy eating choices. Children will be able to take home their creations.
Cookie Kids has received a business start up grant from Winchester City Council to purchase the equipment needed to set up her business. Cllr Rob Humby Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council, added,
I was pleased to meet Debbie and to find out about her exciting new business venture. Debbie has been a teaching assistant for fifteen years so is enthusiastic about teaching children valuable skills whilst incorporating nutritional values. It is good to see how a grant from Winchester City Council has made a real difference to a business just starting out.
Cookie Kids workshops are based in Debbie’s brand new kitchen in her own home, a warm and inviting educational environment for children, encouraging them to cook at home. Offering a range of classes, children can book for six weeks at only £12.50 per week or just pay on the day for £15. With many themed workshops from Easter to Halloween coming up and a January special of sugar paste roses the kids will never be bored. These sessions also make the perfect party in your own home to create a tasty birthday treat. With the new University semester approaching Debbie is now offering two hour workshops at just £30 for students to encourage healthy eating on a budget.
