Winchester City Council Neighbourhood Services Team last week visited the lucky raffle-winners from their ‘Protect your pooch’ event to hand over bags of dog food as prizes.

The event, held at Stanmore Community Centre on Wednesday 21 August in partnership with the Dogs Trust, encouraged local owners to take positive steps to keep their dogs safe and healthy.

Those who attended had the opportunity to speak to Winchester City Council’s Animal Welfare Officer and representatives from the Dogs Trust. They provided advice on a number of issues including flea-treatment and neutering while 15 brave dogs left with new microchip. Goodie bags were also handed out which contained a variety of dog-related items including bags encouraging dog-owners to be responsible and clean up after their dogs.

Cllr Jan Warwick, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Environment, said:

It is positive to see that local dog-owners took advantage of this free community event. It is important for the whole community that we have responsible dog-owners.

The Neighbourhood Services Team will be running further events across the Winchester District over the coming months. For more information please contact the Neighbourhood Services Team by telephone on 01962 840 222 or email:
