Rewarding sporting achievement in the Winchester District
Press Release: 03/09/2013
Nominations are being invited for the 6th Annual Sports Awards for the Winchester District.
After a fantastic year of sport, the Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) is asking local sports clubs, community organisations and residents to name the best of the District’s sporting talent as the build-up starts to the big award ceremony on Thursday 5 December.
The awards, which have grown year-on-year, will be presented at a ceremony in the Guildhall, Winchester, and aim to celebrate the achievements of Winchester’s sporting residents, both young and old.
With London 2012 now firmly behind us, the theme of this year’s event has taken inspiration from the Hampshire Awards - Rewarding Sporting Achievement.
The awards aim to recognise the commitment and excellence of coaches, volunteers, sportsmen and sportswomen across the Winchester District and clubs can request nomination packs now.
Last year nominations were received from St Cross Symondians Cricket Club, Winchester and District Athletics Club, Winchester Rugby Club, Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club, Winchester Gymnastics Club, Kings School, Peter Symonds College, Bishops Waltham Dynamos, Hampshire Riding Therapy Centre, Winchester & District MENCAP Society and Littleton Football Club to name a few. It is hoped that as a legacy to London 2012 many more clubs and organisations will have sports stories and nominees to put forward for local awards and will take the opportunity to submit nominations as the event continues to grow and reward those individuals and teams who commit so much of their time to sport in the Winchester District.
