Winchester Art Club Annual Exhibition 2013

Work by members of Winchester Art Club including sculpture, drawings and paintings will be on display at the Winchester Discovery Centre from Saturday 12 October until Sunday 3 November.

This popular annual exhibition offers visitors to the gallery a colourful and vibrant display of work that will appeal to all tastes.

Founded in 1919 the Winchester Art Club developed from the Winchester Fine Arts Society that had existed since 1888. The Club’s aim is to promote participation in the fine arts, painting, drawing and sculpture, offering encouragement and inspiration, particularly among those who paint as a hobby. Each year members submit their work for judging and, whether amateur or professional, all are selected on merit and the best incorporated in the exhibition.

Cllr Robert Humby, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at Winchester City Council, said:

The annual Art Club exhibition is an occasion that I know many people look forward to and I’m sure that this year’s show will not disappoint. Who knows it may even inspire visitors to tap into their own creative instincts, pick up a pencil or brush and have a go.

At 7.30pm on Saturday 12 October Winchester Art Club presents an evening talk by popular art historian and author Douglas Skeggs, Turner, the Sun is God, in the Performance Hall in Winchester Discovery Centre, which will examine the work of arguably Britain’s greatest artist.

Tickets are £8 and £6 for concessions available through the Winchester Discovery Centre box office on 01962 873 603. Tickets are also available from Winchester Art Club at www.winart.hampshire.org.uk

The exhibition opens on Saturday 12 October and runs until Sunday 3 November.

City Space opening times: Monday – Friday 10am – 6pm, Saturday 10am – 5pm, Sunday 11am – 3pm.

Admission is free.
