Make your voice heard - Don’t lose your vote in 2014

Press Release: 01/10/2013

Voter registration forms will soon be dropping through letterboxes across the Winchester District. By completing and returning these forms quickly, residents will help the City Council to compile the new electoral register, which will come into force on 17 February 2014 and be used at the European and District elections scheduled for 22 May 2014.

Residents who have not received their form by the beginning of November can contact the Electoral Registration Officer on 01962 848 125.

Registering to vote is very simple. All people have to do is update the annual canvass form with the details of everyone in their household who is eligible to vote and return it as soon as possible. If their details have not changed, residents can also reply by telephone or e-mail.

Residents can also use the form, telephone or internet to opt to have their name excluded from the ‘edited register’, which is the version available for purchase by individuals and commercial organisations, usually for marketing purposes.

People who are not on the Register will not be entitled to vote - and it could also affect credit status, as credit rating agencies use the Register as part of their assessments.

For more information, contact the local Electoral Registration Officer on 01962 848 125.
