Phone parking at Park & Ride
Press Release: 19/11/2013
Motorists using Winchester’s Park & Ride sites will be able to use their mobile phone to pay for parking for the first time from Wednesday 27 November.
Many of the city’s car parks already offer the option of payment by telephone which is especially helpful for those who may not have coins with them.
Cllr Jan Warwick, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods & Environment, said:
This development brings our Park & Ride sites into line with other city car parks and makes them more convenient for people to use.
The improvement is in time for Christmas and will be especially useful for visitors to the city who may not have the correct change.
The Winchester Park & Ride service is operated by Winchester City Council from car parks constructed by and leased from Hampshire County Council. Park & Ride has been developed as a way of reducing traffic volumes and the impact of traffic in the city centre.
There are three Park & Ride car parks: South Winchester, and the East Winchester car parks - Barfield and St Catherine's. There are over 1600 parking spaces available. All three car parks have been awarded the Park Mark Safer Parking status for security and safety.
The Park & Ride car parks are available seven days a week. The bus service usually operates Monday to Saturday only, except on bank holidays. There are extra services in the run-up to Christmas. Visit www.winchester.gov.uk/parkandride for details.
Season tickets and pre-payment smart cards are also available for the Park & Ride.
