Grant lights up tennis at Denmead
Press Release: 06/11/2013
New floodlights have been installed at Denmead Tennis Club thanks to a grant served up by Winchester City Council.
The lights were funded through a £1,400 grant from the City Council’s Active Communities Grants scheme.
The new lights were switched on in October when Cllr Kirk Phillips, Winchester City Council ward member for Denmead, was welcomed to the club by secretary David Chiswell and club coach Alan Redman.
Cllr Phillips said: “I can’t think of a friendlier or more welcoming place than Denmead Tennis Club. It is particularly pleasing to see Winchester’s grants going where they are appreciated and can be shared by all.”
The lights were installed in August and were officially switched on during a tournament held in October. The project is expected to increase participation from October to March during the evening hours and to help expand after-school activities.
