Friarsgate car park – temporary closure of spaces
Press Release: 15/11/2013
A number of spaces at Friarsgate car park in Winchester have been closed as a precaution after damage to the floor of the car park was found during a routine structural inspection.
The majority of the 251-space car park remains open. The temporary closure affects 46 spaces, 23 on floor 4 and 23 on floor 6.
The prompt action shows the benefit of regular inspections which are essential if potential health and safety issues are to be identified and addressed. The car park will be closely monitored.
All other car parks in Winchester are fully open and preparing for the busy Christmas shopping season. Free parking is available after 4pm on Thursdays in the run-up to Christmas in many of the city centre car parks. In addition a free bus service has been arranged from the East Park & Ride car parks on Sundays during December and the City Council has worked closely with Stagecoach to supply additional Park & Ride services during the festive season.
