Children take over at City Council
Press Release: 11/11/2013
Children will take over at Winchester City Council this month.
Ten students aged 11 – 14 from the Henry Beaufort and Kings’ secondary schools in Winchester will work alongside members of the Council’s housing management team on Friday 22 November.
The initiative is part of the Children’s Commissioner’s ‘Takeover Day’, which gives young people the chance to be involved in decision-making.
The young people will have the chance to be involved in a variety of housing management functions including estate walkabouts and improvements, letting empty properties and garages and meeting residents in older persons’ housing.
The children benefit from the opportunity to experience the world of work and make their voices heard, while adults and organisations gain a fresh perspective on what they do.
The national ‘Takeover Day’ scheme is now in its seventh year.
