Official opening of outdoor gym

Press Release: 26/03/2013

(L to R) Lydia Lockhart, Active Lifestyles Officer for WCC, and the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Frank Pearson, trying out the new outdoor gym.

Join the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Frank Pearson, as he cuts the ribbon on Saturday 6 April (10am) to open the new outdoor gym at Imber Road, Winnall.

A personal trainer will be on hand to help local people get the best out of the new low-impact and resistance-based equipment, which is aimed at helping people stay fit and active.

This is an opportunity to try out the brand new health-walker, sit-up bench, power-push, pull-down challenger, handle-boat, push-hands, ski-stepper and mini-ski in the great outdoors. Time to work off those Easter eggs!

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Frank Pearson, said

This outdoor fitness facility is an opportunity for residents to lead an active and healthy lifestyle while socialising at the same time. Young and old can keep fit any time of the day, even exercise during their lunch breaks.

As a direct response to comments from the local community, who were inspired by last year’s London Olympics, it was decided to install new fitness equipment. Local residents can set up complex fitness programmes or just informal work-outs in the open air with equipment that is accessible to all.

No membership is required for the new outdoor gym. During the opening morning there will be plenty going on, including some surprise giveaways. Local people are invited to see for themselves what the new gym has to offer and to give it a go.
