Bishop’s Waltham celebrates independents on 4 July
Press Release: 21/06/2013
No, we haven’t made a mistake with our spelling. On Thursday 4 July, rather than American Independence, Bishop’s Waltham will be celebrating all that is great about independents: independent retailers that is.
With shops, cafes and salons remaining open until 7pm on 4th July, shoppers will have plenty of time to show their support for local businesses as well as take advantage of special one-day offers, events and freebies that most outlets will be offering.
Free tastings, free goodie bags, 10% off offers, prize draws and drinks receptions are just some of the things going on throughout the town on Independents’ Day. Music and other entertainment has also been organised for the day.
Children can take part in a treasure hunt, which will take them on a trail around the town centre with a prize for each successfully completed quest, and a special prize for one lucky participant.
As a regular visitor to Bishop’s Waltham, antiques expert and television personality John Cameron (Cash in the Attic, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is) will be joining in the fun on the day.
The nationwide Independents’ Day campaign, organised by the National Skills Academy for Retail, is now in its third year, with Bishop’s Waltham taking part this year for the first time. The event is being coordinated and promoted by Winchester City Council’s Market Towns’ Development Officer, Heidi Isa, and members of the Bishop’s Waltham Chamber of Trade.
Jenny Coombs, from card shop Best Wishes, said:
Bishop’s Waltham is full of independents so this event is the perfect opportunity to showcase the choice available in the town centre. It is also a great way for us to show our loyal customers how much we appreciate their support.
Steve Miller, Chairman of Bishop’s Waltham Chamber of Trade, said:
Bishop Waltham businesses are passionate about promoting their unique retail offer to local people. Why not take advantage of the late opening and bring the family along to this exciting evening event?
Cllr Robert Humby, Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council, added:
This event is a great example of how our recently appointed Market Towns’ Development Officer can drive forward local events in collaboration with local business.
