‘Start-Up Britain’ bus visits Winchester
Press Release: 01/07/2013
National enterprise campaign ‘Start-Up Britain’ is set to visit Winchester to help boost the number of businesses started in the UK to a record 500,000 this year.
The campaign’s double-decker bus will be at Guildhall Winchester in the Broadway at the lower end of Winchester High Street on Thursday 18 July from 9am to 5pm. It will be filled with local business start-up experts and business champions ready to deliver free help and support to the growing number of people who are becoming entrepreneurs in the Winchester District.
If you are interested in starting or developing your own business and are looking for free, friendly advice from experts, then now’s your chance.
Start-up and micro business account for 95% of all British businesses, provide employment for 7.8 million people and contribute 20% of private sector turnover.
Winchester City Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Cllr Robert Humby, said:
This is one of a number of measures Winchester City Council is taking to support local entrepreneurs. Last Autumn we signed a pledge to become a ‘Champion for Real-Life Entrepreneurs’ as part of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) national campaign. We are also hoping to introduce business start-up grants later on this year.
Winchester is one of over 30 towns and cities across the UK that the bus will visit, delivering free help and support to the growing number of people who are becoming their own boss in Britain. Evidence shows that small businesses that get support and outside help do better in the current economic climate.
Peter Richardson, Director of Ecoskill Ltd, whose small business is organising this year’s Winchester event, said:
It's your opportunity to get friendly, informal face-to-face advice. You can also explore the attractions on the bus, register for a start-up loan, find out about mentoring or pick up a goodie bag. We started Ecoskill, which specialises in e-learning and services for sustainable business, in 2010 and have never looked back.
