New services for Winchester tourism

Winchester City Council’s Destination Management Partnership has launched two new visitor services this month which aim to increase both leisure and business tourism.

Working in partnership with Hampshire County Council, Winchester Tourism has launched a new information point at Winchester Discovery Centre. There is now a dedicated area where visitors and residents can collect information on the city from maps to accommodation listings. Staff at the Discovery Centre are also happy to answer any queries and will now work in partnership with the main tourist information centre team located in the Guildhall in the Broadway.

Another new service launched this month aims to support business tourism to the area. Conference Winchester, Winchester City Council’s consortium of hotels and conference venues, has rebranded in order to make more of the business tourism product in the district. Organisations looking to bring their conference to Winchester can now use a single contact point as the Winchester Tourist Information Centre team has been trained to give advice on venues, locations and even ideas for team-building activities.

Sarah Harfield, Team Leader at Winchester Tourist Information Centre, said:

We are really excited about these two new initiatives. Having information points at two key locations in the city will enhance the welcome to visitors in Winchester.

We feel that Winchester offers something unique to businesses due to the fact that there are so many fantastic conference venues in beautiful settings. We have worked with 24 private-sector partners to create a new look and feel for Conference Winchester and hope that having a centralised communication point will encourage businesses to bring their conference, meeting or away-day to Winchester.

Cllr Robert Humby, Winchester City Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said:

We are always looking for ways to improve our service to visitors and support the dynamic tourist industry locally. Both new services have been made possible by the enthusiasm of Winchester City Council’s tourism team and Hampshire County Council’s Winchester Discovery Centre team and our conference venues across the district.
