Helping hand for community groups
Press Release: 26/02/2013
A new round of small grants is available from Winchester City Council to support voluntary and community groups across the district.
Groups have until Monday 18 March to apply for grants up to £500 for activities taking place between May and September 2013.
Grants can cover purchase of equipment, publicity and other essential items. In particular the grants aim to promote the well-being of older people, improve access to services, reduce the district’s carbon footprint and improve the quality of life in the neighbourhoods of Stanmore and Winnall.
Cllr Patricia Stallard, Winchester's Portfolio Holder for Communities, Culture & Sport who oversees the Council's grants programmes, said
Winchester City Council’s small grants scheme is always popular and continues to provide crucial support for voluntary and community groups in the district. In the past year – not surprisingly, given the economic climate - the scheme attracted an unprecedented number of applications.
I expect the grant applications we receive this year will be, as always, interesting and varied and they will give an overwhelming sense of community spirit in Winchester.
Last year grants worth £15,000 were approved by the City Council.
