Huān Yíng (welcome) to Winchester

Press Release: 23/08/2013

The Anhui delegation in Abbey Gardens

Five officials from Anhui Government in China visited Winchester on Friday 23 August to learn from Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council.

The five guests were warmly welcomed to Abbey House, the Mayor of Winchester’s official residence, by Cllr Robert Humby, the Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council who is also a Hampshire county councillor.

Cllr Humby said:

The Anhui Province lies in the hinterland of Yangtze Delta where there is great economic development potential so it was fitting that the delegates chose to visit Winchester which has pledged to put business at the heart the council’s work in the coming years. I have been practising my Chinese with my 16-year-old daughter and I enjoyed welcoming the visitors in their own language.

A presentation from Neil Pitman, Head of the Southern Internal Audit Partnership, was followed by a guided tour of Winchester from one of the city’s official tourist guides and then by a traditional British lunch in the Mayor’s house.

Alei Duan, Managing Director of Abridge Capital International Ltd, whose company has been helping bring Chinese investment into the UK for the last seven years, said:

Thank you to the two councils for welcoming us to Winchester. My guests really enjoyed their visit and they are keen to put into practice what they have learned when they are back on in the Anhui Province.
