Future of Winchester Station area
Press Release: 15/04/2013
New jobs and an improved environment at a key gateway to the city are among the potential benefits of redevelopment of the railway station area in Winchester.
Winchester City Council has started work to look at the options with a development assessment report and is talking to landowners and Network Rail.
A parking strategy has already been commissioned which will be an important factor in informing any proposals. The City Council is keen to make sure that suitable parking is provided for all users including businesses and commuters whilst at the same time considering development opportunities that meet the authority’s economic objectives.
Cllr Keith Wood, the Leader of Winchester City Council, said
Redevelopment of the area around the railway station represents an important and exciting opportunity for the city.
We will work closely with partners and landowners to develop proposals that aim to bring new employment and an improved environment in the Andover Road area balanced with meeting the parking needs of commuters.
