New support network for Winchester-based local food and drink producers
Press Release: 11/09/2012
The official launch of the Winchester District Local Food Producers’ Network will take place on Tuesday 2 October at 4.30pm at the award-winning Alresford-based Chocolate Company, Chocolate Craft in Old Alresford.
Winchester City Council has recently commissioned Henriette Reinders from the South East Food Group Partnership to establish this free, dynamic and action-focussed network for Winchester District-based food and drink producers.
At the meeting businesses will find out about Winchester City Council’s new apprenticeship and micro-business development grants, forthcoming training opportunities, and be treated to a tour of Chocolate Craft.
The Winchester District, with its growing reputation for quality local produce, endorsed by the size and popularity of its thriving bi-monthly market and weekly food and produce market, boasts a wealth of local food and drink producers, with a wide variety of products from fresh trout to watercress. Businesses range from one man bands to established producers supplying Fortnum and Mason.
Cllr Robert Humby, Winchester City Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning and Economic Development said,
Local food and drink producers play an important part in the economy of the Winchester District, particularly in the rural part of our District. During the ongoing economic downturn when producers are faced with increasing costs and changing consumer habits it is particularly important for the Council to be supporting this sector.”
