Local musicians unite for free live music event

Press Release: 04/09/2012

Bandstand Marathon2

There are only days to go until the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games but Winchester will be making sure that the City sees the summer out with a bang – and a pluck and a twang!

Join a whole host of talented local artists at Oram’s Arbour on Sunday 9 September from 1pm to 5pm for a celebration of music and culture in support of the London 2012 games. This summer has provided the nation with so much to be proud of and it seems only right that Winchester participates in the Bandstand Marathon, a country-wide live music event that will see over 200 cities hosting their own outdoor concerts and inviting residents and visitors along for free.

Winchester-based musician Vicki Musselwhite, 26, says:

It’s an absolute pleasure to perform during celebrations for the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. As a local musician, it’s great to be able to play in my home town and know that I have been part of such an historic and once-in-a-lifetime event.

Vicki, who has just released her debut EP, Skylines, will be joined on the day by rip-roaring folk act, Folkosaurus, local singer-songwriter Martha’s Man and the delectable Southampton Ukulele Jam.

Cllr Patricia Stallard, Winchester City Council’s 2012 Champion and Portfolio Holder for Communities, Culture and Sport, added:

Whether you enjoy the meaningful melodies of the solo performers or foot-stomping folk this event provides an opportunity for local people to join in the London 2012 festivities.

So, bring a picnic, and your family and friends to share it with, and head on down to Oram’s Arbour this Sunday. The entertainment doesn’t end there, the Winchester Live Site at the Cathedral Grounds will be screening the London 2012 Paralympic Games closing ceremony from 7pm so see the summer out in style by relaxing in what will no doubt be the glorious evening sun…
