Best foot forward for kidney patients
Press Release: 10/09/2012
A sponsored walk is taking place in Winchester on Sunday 23 September from 11:00am to 12:30pm, in aid of the National Kidney Federation (NKF). The NKF is a very unique charity as it is run by kidney patients for kidney patients; 50,000 people in the UK are receiving treatment for kidney disease and 3 million people are at risk of chronic kidney disease.
Lydia Lockhart, Winchester City Council’s Active Lifestyles Officer and coordinator of the Winchester Health Walks programme is leading the walk. It will be approximately 4miles and will take a scenic route out towards Twyford along the Itchen Navigation, then back into Winchester via St Cross Hospital and Winchester Cathedral. There will be a short cut available for those who feel that 4 miles might be too far.
This free walk is a great opportunity for people to get some exercise whilst enjoying the local scenery. The walk also goes a great way to help raise awareness of a condition which does tend to get overlooked by higher profile health issues”
Chair of the Winchester District Sport & Physical Activity Alliance Stuart Barlow comments:
If people enjoy the walk and wish to do it on a regular basis, they can join in on the ‘Winchester Health Walks’, a set of 8 weekly walks which start from various locations across the district.”
