Blue Apple Theatre seeks board members and volunteers
Press Release: 12/04/2012
Could you offer your skills as a trustee of a new charity? Could you share your skills as a volunteer?
Blue Apple Theatre is a highly ambitious theatre company which brings all the benefits of taking part in theatre to adult performers with learning disabilities, and enables them to present high quality theatre, dance and film productions to the widest possible audience. The company started under the auspices
of Winchester and District Mencap in 2005, is now appointing independent board of trustees and is looking for prospective board members with flair and skill.
In addition the company would like to encourage volunteers from all walks of life and a wide range of ages. If you can commit some time and are sensitive to the needs of actors with learning disabilities this could be a fulfilling and rewarding role for you. The company is looking for volunteers and trustees with the following skills or areas of expertise: the arts, financial management, business planning, charity law, web and print design, governance, marketing and communications.
This is an exciting time to join Blue Apple as their extraordinary new version of Hamlet goes on tour from May to July 2012, and they begin to plan their longer term future.
Jane Jessop, Founding Director of Blue Apple Theatre, says:
Blue Apple Theatre was founded to use the skills and enhanced confidence gained through performing on stage as an opportunity for raising the ceiling of expectation for people with learning disabilities. We aim to help our members achieve their social, personal and theatrical potential through the challenge of appearing on stage in public performance. It has been my personal passion since 2005 and it has been so rewarding to see the actors, including my own son Tommy, develop confidence and new skills. Whether you are retired, a working professional or a stay-at-home mum, volunteering is an excellent way to gain work experience and broaden your social network.”
