‘Return to Running’ in Winchester

Whether you are a complete beginner or want to get back into running after a break, there are local ‘Return to Running’ groups starting up in Winchester that you can join to help you get fitter whilst having fun and making friends.

The groups are funded by Sport Hampshire & IOW  Return to Sport scheme, which is launching a wide variety of sports groups across the county in a wide for adults keen to try out a range of sports in a social, fun environment – at very little cost.

The ‘Return to Running’ groups will provide everyone the opportunity to take some regular exercise in a safe, friendly, and non-competitive environment and are led by a UKA qualified athletics coach.

University of Winchester, Sports Facilities Development Manager, Alex Trumble, comments, “The groups are a fantastic way to get back into exercise, it’s a great opportunity if you know you would like to work out but haven’t quite had the motivation to get started yet!”

There will be two Beginners groups taking place to allow as many people as possible to take part.  The Monday evening group will start on 3 October at 6:30-7:30pm and a Thursday morning group at 10-11am, both at the Winchester Sports Stadium. The cost of the 20 week course is £20.

‘Return to Running’ group leader Laura Payne say, “I want to get people out running and bring like-minded people together to enjoy fitness. Running is an easily accessible activity for everyone”.

Cllr Patricia Stallard, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport at Winchester City Council said, ‘Return to Running groups are a fantastic opportunity for people to achieve their goals. Being able to take part in these sessions at our Olympic standard athletics track will inspire and enthuse local people in the build up to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. I’d encourage people to come along and get involved!’
