Winchester gives warm praise for Insulate Hampshire

Chris West who works in Sales and his wife Amy, a Primary School Teacher moved into their new home just three months ago after realising they needed more space following the birth of their then three month old daughter, Isabelle.

The home, which was built in 1989 had only been lived in by one family and the West’s felt it needed renovating to bring it up to current standards. Chris commented that “having paid for insulation in our previous house for much more and then seeing the discounted offer available through Insulate Hampshire, doing it here was a no-brainer”. Amy added that “whilst we’re spending money doing the house up, we felt that the normal cost of insulation might have meant it was a lower priority, but as it’s affordable at £99, we wanted to get it installed straight away”.

Hampshire County Council and 11 Local Councils across Hampshire are working in partnership and with funding from ScottishPower to bring householders Insulate Hampshire. The scheme allows Hampshire residents to access affordable and in some circumstances free cavity wall and or loft insulation to help reduce energy bills, and reduce the County’s carbon footprint.

The couple heard about the scheme through a family member that had received notification via the local neighbourhood watch group; they then registered for a free, technical survey of their house and had the insulation installed shortly afterwards which meant that they were one of the first in the Winchester District to benefit.

When asked about the service and standard of the installation, Chris said “the survey was done really efficiently and took just 15 minutes; we were told we already had our cavity walls insulated but with very little insulation already in the loft, we would benefit from more being added. The tradesman who came to fit the insulation arrived on time, was very nice and tidy – overall it was a really simple process”.

Portfolio holder for the Environment and Transport, Councillor Victoria Weston stated that “having your home properly insulated is the best way to keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer– the Insulate Hampshire scheme is affordable for all and I expect most people will want to save money on their fuel bills and reduce their carbon footprint”.
