New Administration for Winchester City Council

Cllr George Beckett was elected leader of Winchester City Council at the Annual Council meeting in the Guildhall on Wednesday.

The Conservative party have formed a minority administration and now have eight portfolio holders making up the Cabinet.

Cllr Beckett as Leader will take responsibility for the Local Economy, Tourism and Communications, with a focus on the Council’s significant projects.

Cllr Beckett said, "I am very much looking forward to another term as Leader of the Council and have clear plans and priorities that we want to take forward promptly. The portfolio holder positions we have created provide our residents with clear line of responsibility and accountability and will make it easier for them to contact the right person and get assistance more quickly.”  

Portfolios allocated to other Cabinet members are as follows:
Cllr John Cooper – Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Communities, Safety and Public Health
Cllr Keith Wood – Portfolio Holder for Finance and Estates
Cllr Stephen Godfrey- Portfolio Holder for Administration, Innovation and Improvement
Cllr Tony Coates – Portfolio Holder for Strategic Housing and Landlord Services
Cllr Patricia Stallard - Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport
Cllr Victoria Weston - Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport
Cllr Rob Humby – Portfolio Holder for Planning and Enforcement

Planning Development Control – Cllr Ernie Jeffs
Personnel – Cllr Roger Huxstep
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee – Cllr Colin Chamberlain

Following the elections the Conservatives hold 27 seats, the Liberal Democrats 27, Independents 2 and Labour 1.
