'Festivals in Winchester' Photography Competition

This weekend, a new photography exhibition opens at City Space in Winchester Discovery Centre. The exhibition celebrates festivals in Winchester and showcases the work of local photographers. Running alongside the exhibition is a competition to find new photographers who have been inspired by Winchester’s festivals.

The City Council is keen to promote the District’s festivals to help the local economy make the most of the summer months, and the competition is seen as a perfect way to get local people involved in all the activities that will be taking place.

Cllr Dominic Hiscock, Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Prosperity said: “We know from research over recent years that the festival season in Winchester contributes to the economic prosperity of the district. The council has been supporting the Festivals in Winchester group in promoting the city based arts festivals, and this year we are looking to broaden the focus of the marketing campaign to include festivals across the whole district.

Cllr Hiscock is hoping that the competition will inspire some memorable photographs of this year’s festivals and help to uncover new talent. He said: “We’re on the look-out for up-and-coming photographers to capture the best of this year’s festival season. The events can be small village fêtes, market town celebrations, or large scale events like Hat Fair and the
Winchester Festival. If you think you’ve got what it takes to capture the greatest moments of the festival season, this is a wonderful opportunity to share your talents and win a great prize in the process”
