Awards for two more of Winchester’s car parks
Two more of Winchester’s car parks - the newly refurbished Tower Street multi-storey car park and the newly opened South Winchester Park and Ride site - have been awarded Parkmark Safer Parking Awards.
The award scheme, which is owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and administered by the British Parking Association (BPA), awards car parks that meet set standards for reducing the potential for crime to take place. It recognises efforts taken by car park operators such as installing adequate lighting, keeping the car park clean, and carrying out regular patrols.
Cllr Bell, Winchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for High Quality Environment, said: “It is important that our car parks meet certain standards with regards to reducing crime and the fear of crime for all users; but especially for lone users, the elderly, and disabled users. We are very proud that the safety of our car parks has been recognised and hope that it plays a part in encouraging people to visit Winchester City and its District towns”.
Winchester City Council now manages a total of 18 car parks that have received Parkmark Safer Parking Awards.
