An opportunity to serve on the Members Allowances Panel

Are you fair-minded?

Can you reach independent conclusions based on the facts?

Would you be willing to advise on the level of financial allowances which District and Parish Councillors should receive?

If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’ then you may be able to help the Council with its work in this area, by joining the Members Allowances Independent Remuneration Panel.

The Panel will consist of a small group of independent people, who periodically examine the Members Allowances Scheme and make recommendations to the Council on the appropriate levels of payment for the future. For these positions you will need:

  • the ability to assess information about allowance schemes operated in other relevant public and private organisations, together with national statistics and indicators.
  • the ability to reach impartial and fact based conclusions.
  • some general knowledge about local government and at least a basic appreciation of the role of Councillors (current County, District or Parish Councillors cannot apply for these positions).

The Panel meets about once or twice per year and a fee for the work is payable, together with travel and subsistence expenses. The period of appointment will be for two to three years. If you would like to receive an application pack, please contact Katherine Pryor on 01962 848 264 or email kpryor@winchester.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is Thursday 22 July 2010
