Cooking with Lucia – a taste of Roman history
Press Release: 23/11/2009
To find out the answers, drop-in to the City Museum on Saturday 28th November to meet and talk to Lucia, a Roman Lady, about everyday domestic life. Visitors will be able to see, touch and smell a variety of herbs, foods and mixtures on Lucia’s table. You will even be able to smell the Roman version of ketchup – if you dare – which is made from three-month-old fish!
After exploring the traditions of Roman cooking, each visitor will be able to take a traditional Roman recipe away with them to try out at home.
Cllr Patricia Stallard, portfolio holder for heritage, culture and sport, said: “This new event reveals a fascinating and influential period of history in Winchester – the birth of modern society as we know it. The Roman lady, Lucia, will help bring the city’s Roman history alive for today’s inhabitants. It promises to be a really interesting event.”
