Temporary measures help to speed-up car park refurbishment

For a period of up to nine weeks, Tower Street Car Park will only be open to Season Ticket holders. The temporary measure will be in operation between Mondays and Fridays to allow vital refurbishment work to be completed sooner.

The temporary change comes in response to concerns from season ticket holders about the forthcoming final phase of internal refurbishment works.

By operating the car park as a ‘season ticket holder only’ facility, an entire deck of the car park can be closed-off at one time to allow work to be completed much sooner.

The temporary measure will also reduce any risk of damage during the refurbishment and alleviate traffic flow within the car park.

Floor C (Tower Street entrance) will be the first to be closed-off from 30 March 2009 until 1 May 2009. Upon the re-opening of Floor C, Floor B (Sussex Street entrance) will be closed until 29 May 2009. These are estimated periods of closure and may be subject to change.

Andy Hickman, Head of Access & Infrastructure, said: “This measure has been taken in conjunction with our partners at Hampshire County Council to ensure that space will be available for our season ticket holders during the final phase of refurbishment work. The car park will remain as a Pay and Display on Saturdays.”

Alternative Pay and Display parking is available at the Coach Park and Cattle Market car parks on Worthy Lane.
