Older people in Winnall net free Fish & Chips
Press Release: 17/02/2009
Older residents of Winnall are the focus of attention this month, thanks to an event organised for them by other residents of the area.
Local residents in Winnall are developing a ‘Community Plan’ for their area and are organising the event for its older residents, which will take place at Winnall Community Centre on Tuesday 24th February at 12:30. The event is free to attend, but you do have to book if you want to secure a place and your fish & chip lunch.
Tim Mason chairman of the Winnall Community Planning Group said “The purpose of the event is threefold:
- We have arranged for agencies such as CAB, Age Concern, Pension Service and WCC Benefits section to attend so that people can get information on what services are available to support them and answer any queries or concerns they may have.
- We want to talk to our older residents to find out what issues and concerns they have as an older person living in the area.
- And finally we just want an opportunity to bring our older residents together to meet up with friends, meet new people and enjoy a free lunch.
He added “If the results of our consultation are to be considered valid, then we need to demonstrate that a significant number of our older residents have contributed their views and opinions, it is vital therefore that as many older residents from Winnall attend the event if anything is to be done to address the concerns they have”.
A similar event is also being organised for the young people of the area on Saturday 14th March. The event is absolutely free for young people aged 8 and upwards and will take place at the KAYAC centre between 11AM and 2PM.
