Winchester City Council is constantly looking for ways to enhance the information provided on its websites for the benefit of those who live, work in or visit the District.  Thanks to affordable new technology, web users are now able to take a virtual tour of some of the Council’s most popular facilities before they visit, plan a special event or decide to purchase a gym membership.

The new series of 360° panoramic views enables you to transport yourself at the touch of a button to the roof of The Westgate; to the gym at Meadowside Leisure Centre in Whiteley, or to Winchester Guildhall to explore the perfect room combination for a wedding or function. There are also internal views of the City Museum in The Square and City Space, the popular exhibition venue at Winchester Discovery Centre.

Kathleen McCulloch, E-Access Development Officer for the Council’s Cultural Services Division, said: “These virtual tours are a fun and interesting way to promote Winchester City Council’s venues, offering users the chance to interact with our website and find out more about what we offer. This is an ideal combination which benefits both our local residents and visitors.”

Cllr Patricia Stallard commented: “In the current financial climate we are making best use of cost-effective technology to promote our venues for business and leisure purposes. We also believe that these virtual views will help people with disabilities – especially those with mobility difficulties, who might otherwise be deterred from visiting by uncertainty about the physical challenges they may face on arrival.  These pictures can provide reassurance about the positive experiences which Winchester aims to offer."
