Public meeting about former laundry site
Winchester City Council planners are inviting people to discuss the potential for a high quality redevelopment of a prominent town centre site.
A public meeting and workshop will be held to investigate the future of what was ‘Winchester Laundry and Cleaning Company’, on the corner of Gordon Road and Hyde Abbey Road.
The Council has commissioned a design brief for this unusual site which is a substantial 2,400 square metres in size. Ideas and concepts will be informed somewhat by the Council’s existing planning policies but all ideas will be considered on their merits.
Principal Planner James Jenkison said: “We feel it is important to include local people in the future of what is a large and highly visible site in a historic part of town. I am sure people will want to contribute their views on what should or should not happen with this space and we would value their involvement in making the site an asset to the city’s character.”
The meeting will be held at Winchester Guildhall, Walton Room on 7 May 2008 from 7pm to 9.30pm.
Those interested in attending should contact James Jenkison, on 01962 848 567 or jjenkison@winchester.gov.uk.
