A rare chance to see inside Abbey House

Abbey House, the official residence of the Mayor of Winchester, will be open to visitors for guided tours by Winchester City Tourist Guides.

There are just five cities in the country with official residences for their Mayors, and Winchester is proud to be one of them. Abbey House, an elegant property built in around 1700 is sited in the beautiful Abbey Gardens just off The Broadway in Winchester.

This is a rare opportunity for people to visit a building that isn't normally open to the public. They will be led by one of Winchester's official tourist guides, who have undergone rigorous training and are accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. All guides have a genuine enthusiasm for their City and the desire to bring it alive for both visitors and residents alike.

Visitors to Abbey House will be able to meet the current Mayor, Councillor Chris Pines, and have photos taken with him.

The dates and times of the openings are:
- Thursday, 14th June, at 6.30pm
- Thursday, 12th July, at 6.30pm
- Thursday, 9th August at 2.00pm

Tickets for these special visits are available at the Tourist Information Centre for £5 each. Visitors must be 12-years-old or older. No photography is permitted in the house.
