A big hand for tourism meeting

Winchester City Council's tourism team are delighted with the success of this week's meeting for accommodation businesses in the Winchester District.

The event on Monday was greeted enthusiastically by representatives from hotels, B&Bs, self catering properties and camp sites who had the opportunity to find out about the latest legislation, marketing ideas and 'greening' their businesses.  Delegates said it was 'very useful' and that they had 'learned a lot'.

Sponsored by the Winchester Hotel, which has recently undergone a major refurbishment, and Tourism South East, the regional tourism body, the meeting attracted delegates from around 60 local businesses.

Event organiser Alison Woods, the city council's Tourist Information Centre Manager, said, "This was our second accommodation sector meeting and was very well supported - in fact, it drew businesses from across the border who were impressed by the agenda that our tourism team had lined up."

Winchester City Council's Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy and Tourism, Cllr George Beckett, who opened the meeting, said, "The meeting provided a useful opportunity for accommodation providers not only to find out about current and future tourism plans for the district but also to network with one another.  I am sure we shall see some interesting partnership working arising from gatherings such as this which provide the perfect opportunity to generate new ideas and joint initiatives."
