Watch Ruby Wax in action at the Mayor's Charity Ball

Tickets are still available to the Grand 1940s Big Band Extravaganza to be held at the Winchester Guildhall on Friday, February 16.

A ticket price of £50 includes a delicious dinner, dancing to the Big Band, as well as a luxury prize draw and auction by celebrity guest Ruby Wax, who will be assisted by Graham Evans.

Of the 40-plus generous donations received, the prize draw includes a tour of the Houses of Parliament by MP Mark Oaten, a round for two at Alresford Golf Club, and South Winchester Golf Club, a £50 Beales voucher and various wines, foods, and tickets to cultural events.

The exclusive auction prizes include one week's holiday in a chalet in Haute Nendaz, a week's holiday in a cottage on the Welsh coast, a case of Champagne and a signed Saints shirt.

The ball which begins at 7.30pm will be a black tie affair, though more adventurous guests are encouraged to get into the spirit of the evening and dress in 1940s-style costume.

Tickets are available from the Mayor's Office: Abbey House, The Broadway, Winchester, or (01962) 848 259.

Mayor Sue Nelmes' chosen charities for 2006/7 are Basics Bank, Emmaus Hampshire, Naomi House Children's Hospice and Samaritans (Winchester and District).
