A pledge of support to local businesses
Winchester City Council has shown its commitment to helping the local business community by signing a special pledge.
Together with Eastleigh and Test Valley district councils, Winchester signed the 'Small business friendly concordat' at the launch of the 'South Hampshire Meet the Buyers' event, held on February 1.
The concordat is a voluntary code designed to ensure small and medium sized businesses can gain greater access to the contract opportunities available through the three local authorities.
"This is great news for local businesses," said Winchester City Council Leader George Beckett. "It shows our commitment to engaging with the local business community and helping them to sell into the public sector."
The South Hampshire Meet the Buyers event brought together over 100 small businesses from the local area to meet and sell to 20 major public and private sector regional buying organisations such as Eastleigh, Winchester and Test Valley councils, B&Q and ferry operators Wightlink.
"Running the 'South Hampshire Meet the Buyers' event shows that we mean what we say," added Cllr Beckett. "We are committed to helping the local businesses of our areas develop, grow and compete."
