Blues' butties make for a better bite
Press Release: 26/09/2006
Blues is the latest Winchester eatery to be awarded the Hampshire Hospitality quality marque and local produce award. Their certificate was presented by the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sue Nelmes, at the newly refurbished sandwich bar in Southgate Street on 26 September 2006. She also took time out to sample one of Blues' celebrated bacon sandwiches.
The Hampshire Hospitality Award was introduced earlier this year as the new quality assessment scheme for restaurants, tea rooms, pubs, cafés and other eateries. It was piloted by Winchester City Council and Test Valley Borough Council on behalf of the regional tourist board, Tourism South East, earlier this year. Customers can expect an excellent level of service wherever they see the Hampshire Hospitality marque. Some eateries also won a coveted 'local produce' award for use of locally grown ingredients and local recipes.
Blues underwent a 'mystery shopper' exercise, which involved a trained assessor considering every aspect of the customer experience from cleanliness, hospitality, service and efficiency to presentation and food quality.
The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sue Nelmes, said, "Congratulations to Margaret Mullins and her team on this well deserved award and on producing the tastiest bacon sarnie I've had in years!"
Winchester City Council's Tourist Information Centre Manager, Alison Woods, added: "Visitors always ask where they can eat and our list of Hampshire Hospitality Award winners is proving very useful. It will be great to add Blues to that list: it's a really friendly place that suits all budgets and encourages people to enjoy a picnic in the beautiful countryside surrounding Winchester."
Blues is open from 7.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 3pm on Saturdays and can be contacted on 01962 844 880.
