River Park Leisure Centre on track

The refurbishment of River Park Leisure centre is on schedule for completion in July. If no unforeseen problems occur then the centre will fully re-open on Monday 3 July in plenty of time for the summer holidays.

Most of the centre is still open however, and Winchester City Council and DC Leisure are both pleased to announce the gradual re-opening of other areas of the centre. Tuesday 30 May sees the re-opening of the sports hall with new high level redecoration, lighting and floor refurbishment work completed, and the newly refurbished dryside changing rooms will be open from Monday 19 June. The Kinetica gym and changing rooms, Studios 1 and 2, the squash courts, the Elements health and beauty suite, main reception and the outdoor areas are all already available to customers.

There is still one weeks full centre closure to come from 12 - 18 June (inclusive) to allow for the contractors to carry out installation and testing works that cannot be carried out with the centre open.

The pool complex, wet changing rooms and the function room are out of action for the whole period as much of the work involves maintenance and replacing of plant and equipment affecting the pool, including swimming pool filters, boilers, pipe work, roof access and repairs, and some electrical rewiring. The flume and supporting structure has also been removed.

Customers can expect to see refurbishment of the wet and dry side changing rooms, showers and new lockers as well as some other aesthetical decoration. However, a good deal of the work is happening behind the scenes to ensure that the plant and equipment that help run the centre are in good condition and are working efficiently.

Cllr Patricia Stallard Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage & Sport said "The refurbishment of River Park is progressing well and we are pleased that the work has so far run on time.

"We are confident that the work will allow us to offer a more efficient leisure centre to the people of the district, along with some redecoration and new facilities to make a visit even more enjoyable"
