Celebrating Hat Fair!

The latest exhibition at 'The View' celebrates street performance, artistic practice and community spirit, all inspired by Winchester's annual Hat Fair.

Materials on display include Hat Fair memorabilia, video footage, photographs of Anna Cady's installation work (Hat Fair 2005) and a specially commissioned drawing by artist Jonathan Newdick.

The Hat Fair belongs to the people of Winchester, and the display aims to capture the atmosphere and excitement of this annual summer event, reflecting the experience from the performers' point of view, and presenting the historical background to the fair. This event is organised by postgraduate Museum and Gallery Studies students (University of Southampton) in conjunction with Winchester School of Art, supported by Winchester City Council and the Attic Theatre Company.

The exhibition at 'The View', Bridge Street, Winchester, runs from 16 May - 4 July 2006.
