Try your hand at spinning at the City Museum in Winchester. Ann Lovick and her team will be demonstrating medieval spinning in the museum on Bank Holiday Monday 29 May from 11.00 a.m. - 5.00 pm.Hand held drop spindles will be available so that visitors can have a go at spinning wool for themselves as it would have been spun during the Middle Ages. There will be other family friendly spinning and weaving activities to try, and some displays of Roman weaving with weighted looms.
Sher Kent, Visitor Services Manager for Winchester City Council's Museums said "Artefacts on display in the museum tell us that spinning and weaving were important pastimes for many of the citizens of medieval and Roman Winchester. I'm really looking forward to trying out the ancient skill of spinning for myself. Events like this are a real hands-on way to find out about the past. Please come along and join in!"
