No bonuses for parking attendants
Winchester's parking attendants do not get bonuses for the number of motorists they issue with a ticket, the city council has said. All attendants who work for the council receive only a salary, regardless of how many tickets are issued.
Deputy leader of the council, George Hollingbery, said: "There have been reports in the national media that parking attendants in some parts of the country get a bonus for reaching targets of tickets issued. This is not the case in Winchester district.
"It is important that we do not exploit motorists who park, but I'm sure most residents would agree the rules have to be enforced otherwise there would be chaos."
Mr Hollingbery added: "Winchester has been held up as an example of good practice in its parking activities and all monies generated by parking tickets are ploughed back into council services.
"This allows council tax to be kept lower and, for example, helps fund concessionary travel and transport for voluntary organisations that do good work across the district."
