Money raisin'… hair stylin'... chain weighin'..!

The Mayor of Winchester Cllr Sue Nelmes is a cut above the rest this year thanks to her choice of Mayor's Escort - and she wants a lucky competition winner to get the star treatment too.

This week sees the launch of a new competition to raise money for the Mayor's Charities. Ever wondered what the 127-year-old Mayoral chain looks like or how heavy it is to wear? Well if you have, then this competition is for you - if you can guess the weight of the chain you could win the fabulous prize of a brand new look courtesy of a hair re-style with International hairdresser Guy Kremer, whose salon is based in Parchment Street, Winchester.

Guy is stylist to many of the rich and famous including Ruby Wax and is offering this amazing prize in his role as Cllr Nelmes' Escort.

All you have to do is pop along to Winchester Guildhall, where the chain is being displayed outside the Guildhall Gallery, between 4 August and 14 September and guess how much it weighs to the nearest gram. The chain has been officially weighed by Hampshire Trading Standards officer David May and the exact weight will remain sealed in an envelope until the closing date.

Each entry costs only £2 and all monies raised will go towards the Mayor's four chosen charities Emmaus Hampshire, Naomi House, The Samaritans (Winchester & District Branch) and Winchester Basics Bank. The lucky winner will be announced on Monday 18 September.

Cllr Nelmes said "I wish everyone lots of luck for this competition. The prize is fabulous and a chance for someone to get some real star treatment. And for all those men out there, who do not want a restyle for themselves, why not give it a go and win the haircut for that special lady in your life - just think of the brownie points!"

Entries can be submitted when the Guildhall Gallery is open
4 August - 20 August and 25 August - 14 September; Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sundays 12-5pm
