By-elections for City Council

There will be two Winchester City Council by-elections on Thursday 5 May following the resignations of Cllrs Caroline Watts as a member for Whiteley and Kenneth Oxley, a member for Wonston and Micheldever.

The by-elections will be held on the same day as the Hampshire County Council elections.

The new member for Whiteley will stand until May 2007, while the new Wonston and Micheldever member will stand until May 2006.

The last date for nomination papers to be received by the City Council is noon on Thursday 7 April and information about standing as a City Councillor can be obtained from electoral services on 01962 848125, email elections@winchester.gov.uk or found on the City Council website www.winchester.gov.uk under Your Council and "How to get your voice heard."

Anyone wishing to apply for a postal vote can do so up until 5.00pm on Tuesday 19 April.

Polling stations for both the City and County Council elections will be open between 8.00am and 9.00pm on 5 May, with the count taking place at the Winchester Guildhall that evening.
