Winchester's Wildlife back in focus
Winchester District's biodiversity action plan (BAP) has been published today (Tuesday) and is open for consultation with the public.
The BAP, commissioned by the City Council and produced by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, sets out priority species and habitats in the Winchester District area and what can be done to help protect and maintain them.
The Winchester District Natural Environment Forum is overseeing the consultation and adoption process for the BAP, and are hoping that everyone will play their part for biodiversity in the District.
Cllr John Beveridge, Portfolio Holder for Planning and member of the Natural Environment Forum, said: "Everyone can help monitor, conserve or improve the biodiversity in their local area - even in their back gardens. The BAP sets out key areas for biodiversity in our District but also suggests some practical things that everybody can do to help us deliver the action plan."
Robert Stoneman, Chief Executive of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and natural environment representative on the Local Strategic Partnership, said: "The production of this action plan is a real step forward for people and organisations concerned with the natural environment. All the organisations and individuals that can make a difference for Winchester's wildlife now know the key areas for biodiversity in the District and what we can do to protect and maintain it."
The full version of the Winchester District Biodiversity Action plan is available from this link. An executive summary will follow shortly.
