Ghosts and Ghastly Goings-on

Press Release: 15/10/2004

Fearless folk are invited to join a spine-tingling tour of the city this Halloween with Winchester's Blue Badge Tourist Guides.

The lantern-lit Halloween walk will uncover the many strange stories, dark deeds and grisly goings-on that occurred in the city's past - from hangings on the old city walls to sightings of ghostly monks in the cathedral. The walk is returning by popular demand after the success of last year's tour on the spookiest night of the year.

Lasting about 90 minutes, the walking tour takes place on Sunday 31 October and leaves from outside Winchester Tourist Information Centre on Broadway at 5pm, as darkness falls over the ancient city. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £1 for accompanied children and are available from the Tourist Information Centre.

Alison Woods, Tourist Information Centre Manager, commented: "Our talented Blue Badge Tourist Guides are able to turn their hand to any subject and Halloween is no exception. We were delighted with the success of last year's tour which was a sell-out and strongly recommend that customers book early this year to avoid disappointment. It just goes to show that people love a good ghost story!"

The Halloween tour is just one of an exciting menu of themed tours for groups offered by the Blue Badge Tourist Guides. The highly qualified guides also lead regular tours of Winchester at 11am every Saturday throughout November and December, departing from the Tourist Information Centre.
