Alan hangs up his keys

It was a job that he was only going to do for 18 months, but 11 years later Alan Hall has finally decided to hang up his keys from his job as the Mayor of Winchester's chauffeur.

The current Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Jean Hammerton, hosted a reception with the ten previous mayors that Alan has driven, to thank him for his many years of service and to wish him well for the future.

Alan currently lives in Kings Worthy and has lived in and around Winchester for most of his life, apart from when he was travelling the world with the Navy. His adventurous streak will be tested to the full now that he has retired, as he and his wife are off to live in France to enjoy their well-earned retirement.

Out of his 11 years service Alan was only out of action for 4 months when he was recovering from major heart surgery, but even a triple bypass could not prevent him returning to the job he loved.

Speaking of his time with the council Alan said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the various different Mayor's of Winchester, as can be seen by the number of years I have stayed.

"However, the best thing about this job is the wonderful places I have visited and the fantastic people I have had the privilege to meet," he added.
