A Christmas Card for the Mayor
Children from Ridgemede School in Bishop's Waltham have designed this year's official Christmas card for the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Jean Hammerton, who is also their local councillor.
The children were asked to draw festive pictures and the school held special workshops where the children could get ideas and improve their designs.
In November the school was treated to a visit from the Mayor in her full robes and chain, where she spoke to the children in their assembly about her role and the events that she holds and attends. The entries were presented to the Mayor who also enjoyed a question and answer session with the children.
Much deliberation went in to picking the winners, Cllr Hammerton said " I have to say it was a very tough decision, there is a lot of artistic talent here, but I am delighted with the final result".
"It is always a treat to see Christmas through a child's eyes", she added.
The final prizes were presented this week to the five lucky winners who will have their designs not only on the Mayor's official Christmas card, but also the official card from Winchester City Council.
